People who have electrical qualifications could be called upon by Brits looking to save money on their electricity bills as we move into the winter months.

This is according to Jed Walters, who wrote on the Active You blog that employing professional with approved electrical qualifications could help reduce utility bills that are bound to increase as people turn to central heating.

He explained that poor insulation in many of Britain's older homes meant some properties are not as energy-efficient as they could be and by calling in an electrician to insulate power outlets and light switches, savings could be made.

Other tips he gave included installing a programmable thermostat so heating is not left on unnecessarily and night storage heaters could also prove effective.

The Energy Saving Trust noted that one of the most efficient ways of cutting energy costs in the home, as well as reducing the amount of carbon dioxide produced in a property, is through proper insulation.
