From July 2011, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is due to begin with support for UK householders by a Premium Payment scheme to help cover the purchase price of renewable heat systems for up to 25,000 residential installations. Although the first phase is a temporary measure until the RHI scheme is fully rolled out in October 2012, it still means that over a quarter of the first year's budget is earmarked exclusively for systems to be installed in the domestic household sector.Forming a part of the Carbon Plan announced by the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the RHI aims to steer the UK towards adopting renewable energy as a source for home heating and meet emission reduction targets in the next 10-20 years.
