Scottish Govt's Opportunities for All scheme boosts apprenticeships

The Scottish Government is going to great lengths to tackle the issue of youth unemployment, Angela Constance, the UK’s Youth Employment Minister, has said.

Ms Constance has worked to help young people into education, training and jobs since her appointment in December 2011, and has seen youth employment hit its highest levels since late 2010, rising by 11,000 over the course of this year.

The Scottish Government's scheme, entitled 'Opportunities for All' promises a place in education or training for each young person aged between 16 to 19 who does not already have one. The scheme has guaranteed that it will provide funding for 25,000 Modern Apprenticeships every year in this Parliament.

Ms Constance joined the Scottish National Party's (SNP) by-election candidate Shirley-Anne Somerville recently as she took her campaign to Dunfermline, in a bid to highlight the lengths the Scottish Government has gone to to stamp out youth unemployment in the constituency.
