As June came to an end it meant time for our monthly prize draw to pick our ‘Student of the Month’. This month’s lucky winner was current gas student, Derren Davidson and he will now have the option to use his voucher for a course or a set of tools.
Each month we are now drawing out a name from the hat of students that have trained with us in that month. This is to give something back to our students and to give them a great start with their new skills and even their new career. Derren was extremely proud and overjoyed to be chosen as student of the month.
Derren has just complete his gas training at Able Skills, however, this isn’t the first time we have met, and neither will it be the last. Gas training is just a small part of Derren’s massive career overhaul as he plans to start a brand-new career.
Previously, he was a transport manager at Morrisons and decided he was well overdue a change and time to work for himself. Starting earlier this year, Derren began with six weeks of training in our Bricklaying centre and then went on to complete three weeks on both tiling and plastering, before starting his City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing course. Derren doesn’t plan to stop at his gas course, he is enrolled on to the City & Guilds Level 2 Electrical Course in September. He plans to work self-employed in the construction industry and is ready to handle any job thrown at him.
All his tutors have been extremely happy to have him in their class. Most recent tutor described him as “A pleasure to teach”. Other tutors said he was always asking the right questions and had a great will to learn.
We would like to wish Derren the best of luck in his new career and hope he achieves his goals!
