Are you considering a career in the electrical industry but are unsure about being able to commit to the training required to become qualified?

The time and schedule involved with traditional trade courses mean they simply aren’t accessible to many people. These restrictions aren’t just unfair to the individuals who can’t access training, but they also mean the electrical industry, one which is regularly faced with major skills shortages, is missing out on lots of potential talent.

To help combat this, Able Skills is pleased to offer City & Guilds Level 2 (2365-02) and Level 3 (2365-03) electrical training (including a Level 2 and Level 3 combined course) on a home study basis, providing newcomers to the industry with a route to becoming fully qualified with more flexibility.

The courses allow individuals to begin their learning at home and at their own pace using an in-depth study pack which comes with self-assessment papers to monitor progress.

Once a person feels comfortable and confident with the theoretical elements of the course, they can then book into the training centre to complete the practical training and assessments required to obtain the electrical qualification.

Who is home study electrical training suitable for?

Able Skills’ home study electrical courses are perfect for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the sector but cannot commit to regular attendance at the training centre.

The home study option is a popular choice for those looking to switch careers and who need to fit their learning around full-time employment, and for anyone who wouldn’t be able to manage in-person training around childcare commitments.

This type of learning is also useful for those who live a long distance away from the centre as it can significantly reduce travel and accommodation costs.

What are the benefits of home study?

Along with the obvious benefit of not having to attend the training centre for any of your theory learning, there is no specific start or end date for you to complete this element, allowing you full control over your study schedule.

To ensure everyone gets the best-quality electrical training on a schedule that suits them, we cap the number of students enrolled in the home study programme in each period. This helps us avoid scheduling issues when the time comes for you to attend the training centre.

As well as being flexible in terms of scheduling, payments for the course can also be made on a manageable instalment basis, with just a deposit needed to secure your spot and begin your learning. The overall cost of our home study electrical courses is also less than the full-time, in-person equivalent.

“I did the home study electrical installation 2365. It was easy to change my course dates around if I had last-minute work coming up which I appreciated. My tutors, facilities and all of the copious notes they gave us made it really easy to understand and pass the course. I enjoyed it!” - MH, Trustpilot review
