Engineers may need to complete electrical courses if the popularity of bathroom appliances increases.

Ronnie Whelan, editor of The Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Magazine, explained potential trends this year include the installation of mp3 players and televisions masquerading as mirrors.

Workers may need to sign up for electrical courses if they are not completely sure about how to fit such devices.

Ms Whelan suggested mood and task lighting may also be popular in 2010, with remote controlled taps being another technological advance that may soon be more commonly installed.

Regarding the décor of bathrooms, she remarked: "Using neutral tones with crisp white fittings will help make your bathroom a more peaceful space in which to start your day and a welcome sanctuary to unwind in."

Last month, Harrods revealed that it will be displaying a luxury bathtub in its main display window.

The item is a one-of-a-kind rock crystal tub made by Baldi.
