A new development in the field of motoring may lead to more engineers signing up to electrical courses.

This week, General Electric revealed it has created a new form of battery charger for electric cars, which will allow such vehicles to be charged in less than half the time that they are currently.

Engineers may need to complete electrical courses in order to have a full understanding of how to operate and maintain this new technology, which uses a smart grid system to provide sufficient power to the cars.

"Good design is when a new technology enters our life and makes it simpler, beautiful and healthy. The GE Wattstation achieves this," explained designer Yves Behar.

The equipment will cut the charging time for a 24kWh battery from 12-18 hours to four-eight hours.

Technology website LatestGadgets.co.uk stressed the importance of convenience with regards to enticing consumers to purchase electric cars, making this development an important one.
