Now that we are getting back to normality slowly but surely, there has been a huge spike in construction activity across the country. Last month the PMI or Purchasing Managers Index was around 61.7 and level above 50 means that levels are increasing. This is great news. If there wasn't plenty of work out there already in domestic settings. There is now a huge rise in construction firms getting back on the job!

It was a good sign back in February when there were a lot of new orders pouring in. However, last month is really when the construction industry starting ramping up. Getting not just back to normal levels but the most activity growth since September 2014! Although trades people were able to continue working and making money independently. The large construction sites have found it more difficult to operate throughout the lockdown period. It is amazing to see  just how far the industry has come since the first lockdown back in March 2020. Just over a year ago.

It's obvious that  delayed jobs, specifically in the hospitality, leisure and office markets, was cited as driving new activity. However, new jobs with follow on from those and the industry will begin to operate at usual levels and possible even continue to increase. There has never been a better time to gain new skills and start working in the industry!

There is only one problem affecting the construction industry as it stands. This is simply shortages of building products and materials. Demand for construction products remains high both in the UK and globally and is set to continue throughout 2021

Unfortunately, this means the availability issues we are currently experiencing are likely to worsen before they improve. Possibly slowing down this acceleration in production. However, supply issues have had little impact on business confidence. As they are seeing the strongest growth in activity in years!
