Technicians with electrical course qualifications may find their employment situation is aided by new proposals from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Secretary of state for the department Chris Huhne announced the government's strategy for promoting the production of sustainable power and suggested the coalition is laying the foundations for the long-term future of the sector.

In his opinion, the DECC's proposals will invite investment and protect jobs in the electricity industry, which is likely to be well received by staff with electrical course training.

"The coalition is taking the historic step of introducing, permanently, a level playing field for low-carbon technologies in the UK's electricity market," said Mr Huhne.

He went on to say that one of the most "crucial" aspects of government plans is for energy supply to remain plentiful.

Last week, the minister revealed 170,000 homes will be offered grants as part of the state's Warm Front Scheme.
