A source has urged amateur handymen to know their limitations, which could bode well for technicians on electrical courses.

Brad Tuttle explained on the Time It's Your Money blog that there are certain tasks that most people can handle, such as replacing a ceiling fan.

However, he encouraged consumers to pay for expert help for complex work involving electrics.

This could lead to additional residential contracts being handed to engineers who have completed electrical courses and know what they are doing in more advanced DIY situations.

"Go ahead and install a laminate floor. But complicated electrical work, pest extermination and tree removal? It's probably best to suck it up [and] hire a pro," remarked Mr Tuttle.

The blogger explained that there is nothing wrong with saving money here and there, but every handyman must recognise their limits.

Last month, the News & Star urged people to consider utilising online DIY stores if they are considering carrying out a home improvement project in the near future.
