An expert at Grand Designs Live has noted how accessible LED lighting has become, which suggests electrical course attendees may want to read up on the technology.

Kevin McCloud, a television presenter and designer, pointed out that people can now find items such as flexible LED tape in their local store, whereas a number of years ago it would have been treated as a high-tech and expensive gadget.

In his opinion, lighting has reached a "different realm" to when he owned a business in the sector, which suggests that many tradesmen on electrical courses could benefit from being brought up to date with the latest innovations.

"Now LED [lighting] allows for extraordinary things to happen. You can make a light out of rope or paper and it will never catch fire," said Mr McCloud.

Grand Designs Live London started on April 30th and runs until May 8th 2011 at London's ExCel Centre.
