A London-based firm which installs solar panels has reported exceptional expansion in recent months, in news which could convince job hunters to sign up for green energy courses.

SolarCentury revealed it has hired 150 staff since the turn of the year, with a total of 350 people currently employed to fit photovoltaic (PV) solar panels by the company and its 11 affiliates across the country.

"These very encouraging job numbers show that the new feed-in tariff is already delivering rapid growth in new solar PV jobs," said public affairs chief Seb Berry. "UK PV companies can plan with confidence [and] invest for the future."

The business predicted that the industry as a whole will continue to see impressive growth during the remainder of the year, with some of its network partners planning to boost staff numbers by up to 50 per cent.

Last week, HomeSun chief executive Daniel Green suggested a new government solar panel scheme could mean demand for green energy courses is set to increase.
