GMB Trade Union has estimated that it will take almost 200 years to achieve gender equality in the UK construction industry, let's change that!
According to statistics, there are an estimated 60,972 more women in the construction industry than there were in 2009, but as a proportion of the overall workforce, women increased by just 2.1%, from 10.4% in 2009 to 12.5% in 2018.
The construction industry is known for being a male-dominated industry, and it is evident that it will take a humongous effort to correct the unequal ratio of men to women working in all aspects of construction!
For example in the sector of Painting & Decorating, the percentage of female professionals is approximately 7.2% which seems very low compared to other jobs outside of this industry!
... Getting some first-hand experience in wallpapering today!
Kara Korhonen, pictured above is one of our newest students, she is taking a 5-Day Wallpapering course. After finding the course online searching for "Wallpapering courses" she came across Able Skills and decided its the best place to gain some quality practical knowledge due to our great reputation and facilities!
Once Kara has completed this course, she hopes to open up her own wallpaper shop. The plan is to sell and provide wallpaper installations all the way on the other side of the pond in Boulder, Colorado! A long way from our centre here in Dartford!
We get a lot of international students coming to Able Skills, and it's great to see! We encourage all walks of life to enrich themselves by gaining a valuable trade that can be used to provide them with a future career! It is especially great to see women like Kara not only studying a construction trade but planning on starting her own business in the world of construction!
