No experience? If you have little or no knowledge of the trade but you are eager to get involved then it may be advisable to first tackle our Introduction to Plumbing Course - This course will give you the very basics of the trade, you will learn the fundamentals over a period of 5-days. This course will also provide an opportunity to identify if you enjoy the trade and whether or not you could see yourself carrying out these tasks on a daily basis. Getting a taste of plumbing through this course avoids the problem of being stuck in a long-term training program that you end up not perusing. This introductory course has been recognised as an excellent stepping stone for students and as such you will receive a City & Guilds certificate upon completion!
Have some experience? If you have tested your hand at some DIY or generally have some experience in the trade or you have completed our Introduction to Plumbing Course then the next step to perusing professionalism is our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course! This is the ultimate starting point for somebody looking to seriously start a successful career as a plumber. Over 6-weeks you will learn a broad range of topics such as; electrical principles and processes, common plumbing processes, cold water systems, domestic hot water systems, sanitation, central heating systems and drainage systems and gain the knowledge and ability you need to start work upon completion...You are assessed for the qualification by undertaking both practical assignments and on-line exams here at Able Skills. You will find it hard to find a better alternative to this course, taught by our talented instructors who know everything there is to know about plumbing this course is the one-stop for a switch of careers!
How do I get involved?
Enrolling with us is easy and can be done in a few different ways. Firstly, you can enroll onto any of our Plumbing courses or other training by giving us a call on 01322 280 202. Alternatively, you can walk into our office, we are happy to talk to aspiring plumbers at any time, feel free to pay us a visit unannounced and we can get you enrolled in person. Finally, you can enroll online, through our website. Enrolling through our website is easy, find the course you want to apply for and look for the green button labelled "Reserve my Space" you can even click the links throughout this article to get started - Simply select your starting date and fill out your information. If you come across a plumbing course you are interested in and the button is marked "Please call 01322 280 202 to book" that simply means that there are some entry requirements for that specific course and that we would prefer to speak with you over the phone.

Have an existing job? We know that no everybody can commit to a 6-week course so we put together some alternative ways to complete this City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing Course. For example, this entire course can be completed over a series of weekends instead of during the week, you will achieve the exact same City & Guilds qualification, the only difference is the total length of time for completion. Additionally, we have a 'Home-Study' option this version of the course aims to fit around your schedule, it does this in two parts...
Firstly, by reducing the amount of time needed at our facility by 2-weeks by giving you the tools to learn the theory side of the trade in your own time! We will provide you with a 'Home-Study Pack' and access to the online learning platform 'Smart-Screen' with these two tools we recommend that you take around 6-weeks to learn as much theory as you can until you feel that you confidently know everything provided. Secondly, when it's time to take on the practical side of the trade and complete assessments you will be able to pick the 4-weeks at your own leisure to suit you schedule! We hope that either weekend training or our Home Study Level 2 Plumbing Course will give you a chance to make yourself a successful, self-employed business!
