How does our combined Plumbing & Gas course work?

Here at our training centre we teach students variety of different trades, some of our most popular trades include both Plumbing courses and Gas. Recently we talk about how the two are very similar in many ways and the fact that we often see experienced plumbers come to us seeking gas training courses to further their skill-set and have accessibility to more jobs and opportunities. Now, as a complete beginner you can get a step ahead of the game with our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing & Gas Course. - We will be looking at how this course works, some alternative ways to obtain the qualifications and how to get started!

Plumbing and Gas courses at Able Skills.

How does the course work?

Firstly, we do not expect you to learn the two trades at the same time, that would be confusing and inefficient. Instead, you will take on 6-weeks of plumbing training before moving on to a 5-week gas program. The course in both parts will be a real mix of both classroom-based learning for the theory aspects of the trade, combined with practical learning within individual workstations. Everything will be provided for you, meaning that there is no reason to bring your own tools and so on. Both our plumbing and gas instructors are experts in the trade, they have years of experience working out in the industry and now that they have been teaching here for some time they know how to convey the tips & tricks they learnt during there days out on-site to our students.

Upon completion of this combined course you will be able to start working as a plumber, however, before you begin taking on any gas tasks there are a few more steps before you can legally work the trade. The next stage for you is to then get ta portfolio completed by working under supervision of a Gas Safe registered Engineer and once this is done, you will then be in a position to book your ACS (gas exams). You will need to either know an engineer or find a way to work along-side an established Gas Engineer. To complete the portfolio you will need to take pictures of your work as evidence that you can complete work competently and safely. After successfully completing an ACS assessment, the next and final step is to become Gas Safe Registered. To become registered, obviously we do not provide Gas Safe Registration, upon completion of our course you will need to contact them and apply via their website - www.gassaferegister.co.uk

Don't have the time?

If you are interested in this combined course but don't have to time to commit to the course full-time, be aware that we have an alternative training method available. An option that that we offer for this course is being able to take the course in it's entirety over a series of weekends  instead of during the week, hopefully the option to train on the weekend allows those with an existing job the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications and eventually switch careers.
