At the end of 2011 I returned to the UK from New Zealand as my visa had expired but was miserable as anything and all I wanted was to go back to New Zealand but without a skill, that wasn't looking possible. After extensive research I made the decision to enrol onto an 8 week Wall and Floor tiling NVQ level 2 training course with Able Skills in Dartford Kent.I started my course on Monday the second of January 2012 at 8:30am. When I arrived at the training centre I was greeted by my instructors, given a course induction and received my accommodation keys (which was within walking distance of the training centre and only consisted of other students on Able Skills courses). The course ran for a consecutive 8 weeks Monday to Friday with the possibility of joining in with the weekend tiling classes if I wished.I could have also opted for the 8 week course to be broken up into smaller weekly blocks but as I wanted to get the training done ASAP I selected the 8 weeks in block.I have worked on construction sites most of my working life and thought I knew as much as you need to know about site health and safety so I was not really expecting it to be covered in an 8 week practical course however it was and I soon discovered that I didn't know as much as I thought. The health and safety guidance didn't affect my training in any way at all, it just added to the quality overall and I realised just how useful the info was when I was given my NVQ level 2 portfolio to take away!My tiling training with Max and Terry was intense and included preparation of surfaces including priming, applying plaster , applying render, installing uncoupling membranes, electric under floor heating, installing tanking systems, installing?
