Consumers in London are able to find tradesmen with plumbing course qualifications that work locally thanks to a new service called Compare Your Plumber.
It launched in the capital in April 2011 and allows users to contrast the services offered by up to five engineers at a time.
The system was put together by technicians who have completed plumbing courses and chief executive of the firm Gary Burns said it could lead to lower prices for customers.
He explained that the online portal makes it easier for professionals to find jobs close to them, allowing them to make savings and pass this on to the consumer.
Mr Burns said: "We know from experience that many plumbers looking for work will accept a job, even though it may involve travelling long distances, increased costs and waste valuable productive time."
