Local workers who have completed plumber training courses could find themselves in demand to help with a new Building Schools for the Future (BSF) construction project set to get underway in Hartlepool.

Balfour Beatty announced today (April 13th) that it has been awarded the contract for the initial phase of the £95 million initiative - which will see six schools built over the next five years - by Hartlepool Borough Council.

The firm will deliver the initial sample school - Dyke House Sports and Technology College - and refurbish, remodel or build Catcote Business and Enterprise College, English Martyrs School and Sixth Form, College Manor College of Technology High and Tunstall College of Science.

Chief executive of the group Ian Tyler commented: "We have made a commitment to regenerate and sustain the local economy as part of our contract and we look forward to delivering these commitments throughout the construction period."

Balfour Beatty was formed in 1909 and 100 years later was ranked in 19th place in the international league table of contractors.
