Starting a new career is a perfect way to kick start a new chapter in your life and try something you’ve always wanted to do. However, changing career isn’t always as straight forward as it may seem. Finding time to train and finding the money to afford training can be problems you may encounter when looking to re-train. Maybe a Home Study course could be for you...

At Able Skills we offer the perfect solution for those looking to become Plumbers in their new career ventures. The starting point of becoming a Plumber is gaining the City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing qualification. However, it’s a six-week structured course run here at our centre and for those students looking to carrying on working to fund the course while they train it just won’t work out. Therefore, we have the perfect alternative of the Home Study training option.

Home Study is quickly becoming one of our most popular options available here at Able Skills. It is offered as an option for the Level 2 Plumbing course and also for the City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 Electrical Courses. Its great flexibility proves very popular among those looking to fit their training into their current working lives.

Instead of going through a long six week course here at Able Skills to gain a plumbing qualification, the home study offers each students an alternative and flexible training option.

How to get started

To get started you pay a deposit and in return will gain a Level 2 Home Study theory pack, this is something that you will need to work through in your own time to complete all the theory aspects of the course. Also, this will be used to prepare you with the knowledge to complete exams and the practical tasks. Once you feel that you are ready you then book a week of practical training here at our training centre. Four weeks of practical training and exams are required in centre; however, each week can be split up to fit their diary.

Once all your practical assessments and exams are passed and completed you will then gain a City & Guilds Level 2 qualification in Plumbing. This will allow you to go out and work as a Plumber in domestic properties.

Where to go next?

After completing and achieving the level 2 qualification, many people will the go out and begin working in the industry as a Plumber. However, here at Able Skills we see that a lot of our students come back to our centre to either complete their NVQ or even completing their gas training courses with us.
