Engineers who have taken plumbing courses have been given award certificates a ceremony in London, recognising their capability in the profession.

The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering operations director Kevin Wellman suggested all the workers who received accolades at the event will help lead the sector in the future.

He lauded the importance of plumbing courses for such engineers and stated that one of the main aims of the organisation is to "drive up standards".

Mr Wellman added: "We are delighted to be able to present the new Apprentice and Journeyman Certificates to those who have chosen a career in plumbing."

The ceremony was held at the Carpenters' Company in the City of London and represented the first time plumbers, carpenters, joiners and lightmongers have joined forces for such an occasion.

Last month, the Scottish government carried out a £2 million boiler scrappage scheme, which may have increased demand for plumbing courses in the country, as engineers trained to become qualified for such installation jobs.
