Top Gear presenter James May has urged men to rediscover DIY skills, which could lead to more interest in plumbing courses.

Writing for the Guardian, the television personality highlighted how the previous generation of males would think nothing of carrying out all sorts of home improvement and repair projects.

In his opinion, it is high time for another DIY boom, which could lead to more men across the country deciding to invest in plumbing courses.

"Manual work stimulates and uses a part of your brain that's otherwise lying dormant. It's like one of those yogic stretches that pulls on a muscle that you never normally use," claimed May.

He stressed that some tasks require safety precautions, but an activity like bleeding a radiator should be a skill that all men can handle.

Recently, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering Blane Judd noted that technicians who maintain or install a gas-fired device must be on the Gas Safe Register.
