The last thing that you want to worrying about this time of year is becoming the victim of a plumbing disaster - It's cold outside and it seems it is only going to get worse, there are a few things you can do to reduce the risk of a Christmas panic when there are no plumbers on the job. Today we will be talking about a few things you can do yourself as well as how to get involved with plumbing courses in the new year!

Frozen Pipes: This is one of the most common problems that occur when temperatures start to drop like they are doing now. Water inside your pipework can easily freeze causing the bursting of pipes that can lead to massive home floods and cause massive amounts of damage to your furniture and the things you love the most. To prevent this, you can get your pipes a jacket of foam insulation - you can buy these foam strips from any hardware stare and they are easy to apply, most of them come with an adhesive strip that makes the job much simpler. This should help to insulate the pipes against any severe drop in temperature and prevent you coming home from from a long day to become aware of a problem that could have been easily avoided.

Kitchen sink: Now this is not a problem associated with the cold weather but is a problem that becomes more common around this time of the year! We’ve all done it, so don’t deny it, you know as well as I do that you are guilty of putting grease and oil and other stuff down the kitchen sink and through the disposal. Well don't! This can be easily avoided simply by not doing it, it can cause major problems and will only cost you money and time. Plus, you should avoid pouring grease and oil down the drain when the temperature is lower as they are more likely to clog up the waste pipes and lead to nasty smells and backed up pipes.
