Engineers who have completed renewable energy courses are in demand thanks to the drive for greener power sources, according to one industry expert.

Mark Tully, head of Roevin Engineering, suggested there are several sectors, such as life sciences, power generation and pharmaceuticals, which are considered to be "resurgent" following the recession.

In his view, it is the growing trend for more sustainable electricity sources that is prompting more demand for technicians who have completed renewable energy courses and other relevant training.

Mr Tully said: "An abundance of domestic and global opportunities, as well as the increasing number of vacancies in the construction industry will be of particular benefit to civil engineers."

He suggested engineers are in a great position to play a key role in the UK during the economic recovery.

The Roevin Engineering representative's comments were made in response to the latest Monster Employment Index, which showed a 26 per cent increase in employment opportunities for people in the engineering sector.
