Renewable energy courses may be in greater demand if an initiative aimed at farmers is successful.

Freesource Energy is offering free installation of solar energy devices for people who sign up for the machinery to be used on their farmland.

Managing director of the firm Alex Lockton suggested green power generators are an "important consideration" for businesses, with the setting-up and maintenance of such items likely to require an engineer who has completed renewable energy courses.

Mr Lockton highlighted how more electricity needs to be produced in other ways than burning fossil fuels, adding: "Going green has become not just crucial to our planet's survival, but to everyone today and future generations."

He described how farmers who enrol in the Freesource Energy initiative will receive a regular income from the solar panels as a result of the power they generate.

There may soon be more job opportunities for workers in the green energy sector in Scotland, after wind turbine developer Gamesa announced its intention to open various facilities in the country.
