Cherwell District Council has revealed it is considering expanding the installation of solar panels on its buildings, which could mean more work for technicians who have completed PV courses.

Michael Gibbard, a Conservative councillor on the planning committee, explained to the Bicester Advertiser that the green power generators have already been installed on the organisation's Thorpe Lane depot.

He claimed the local authority is "seriously" considering expanding the solar panel installation programme to include five more buildings, which could provide work for tradesmen with PV course qualifications as early as May if the proposals are approved.

"The PV cells provide power to a building and any surplus can be fed into the National Grid, for which there's a tariff and we get paid," Mr Gibbard told the publication.

Another local authority considering adding solar panels is in Colchester, which has revealed it could install the generators on council houses with south-facing roofs.
