Solar PV courses

Solar PV cells use sunlight to produce electricity, and are therefore a renewable and low-carbon energy source. With all the publicity surrounding renewable energy sources and the pressure to find more environmentally-friendly energy sources, solar PV cells are set to rise significantly in popularity, and therefore demand for tradesmen who are qualified to fit them will rise. The government is investing in solar PV cells, offering grants to homeowners who choose to fit them to their homes. Those with the relevant training will be able to benefit from this increased demand.

Qualified and experienced electricians who wish to design, install, commission and service solar PV systems can take solar PV courses, which are accredited by NICEIC. The courses cover most of the small-scale domestic solar PV systems that are used in the UK. It will take around three or four days depending on whether the candidate needs to complete a Health and Safety course in conjunction with the solar PV course. It is also possible to train to work in the commercial/industrial sector with City & Guilds.

Those wishing to complete the domestic course must have studied and passed 17th Edition and full electrical courses. There are additional requirements for those looking into the commercial/industrial course. Those who are completely new to the industry and are considering solar PV installation as a trade should look in to the appropriate electrical courses before solar PV courses, as they are designed for those already working in the electrical industry.
