Continuing our student stories series, in this latest instalment we have a quick Q&A with student Stephen. As you’ll find out below, Stephen completed the Introduction to Rendering course over five days as he wanted to learn new skills to complete a rendering project.

Which course are you currently undertaking?

“Rendering 5 day course.”

This is our introduction to rendering course. The course is spread over five days and designed to give the students a solid understanding of the basic skills of rendering.

What is it about your chosen profession that appeals to you?

“Chose the course to do work on my house.”

Stephen explained that he chose this particular course with a specific goal in mind; to be able to complete some rendering work on his own property. We often see that with students here at Able Skills, and our introductory courses are a perfect way to learn the basic skills to complete a personal project.

What made Able Skills stand out from other training providers?

“Great hands-on training and affordable accommodation.”

We have affordable accommodation available that any student can book and our training facilities are purpose-built with the aim of replicating as close as possible the real-world working environments that students will face after finishing their course.

How have you found the teachers on your course?

“I had Neil and he was an excellent tutor and made you feel comfortable.”

All of our instructors are time-served in their construction trades and only deliver courses that they are qualified to do.

Which parts of your course have you enjoyed most and what has surprised you?

“My technique and ability improving day by day.”

“Although physically tough, the end result was very rewarding.”

It’s something that we hear often from students; there’s a real sense of satisfaction that comes from learning something new and improving your skills. With only a few exceptions, such as theory-based courses, our courses are hands-on - so can be physically demanding!

Lastly, what do you plan to do now with your new skills?

“Going to try and render my house.”

We’re sure you’ll do a great job!

There are many reasons why people choose to train with Able Skills. Construction trade training isn’t just about starting or developing a new career, though it often is. We see many people choose to train with us to gain confidence in new skills for personal reasons; either they have a project at home they want to be able to do themselves or they have an interest in a trade they want to develop further.

If you’re interested in finding out more about our training facilities and courses, we recommend visiting us at our training centre in Dartford, Kent. There’s no need to make an appointment as we have an open house policy – just turn up any time we’re open to look around, see the facilities, and chat with our tutors and students.
