A Ministry of Defence (MoD) site in Corsham has described how it has created work for people with a variety of qualifications, including tradesmen who have completed plumbing courses.

Defence secretary Liam Fox officially opened the base last month and an Army source has described the positive impact the facility has had on the local community since it was launched.

Speaking to the Wiltshire Times, chief of staff Colonel Gordon Rafferty noted that it is creating employment opportunities for people in the region and is prompting a variety of new technology to be utilised.

"We are not going to hire a plumber from Sheffield if we need one and we know there are plenty of them in Corsham that can have the work," he explained to the publication.
