The construction industry is forever changing, new technology means drones are becoming a vital accessory.

The presence of drones in construction means significant changes within the industry. Drones have already begun changing the way the construction industry operates, and those changes will have continued and lasting effects. Let's take a look at some of the major ways that the industry could be positively affected by this technology.

Technology is changing the way the Construction industry operates.

Surveying Land:

Land surveying is the detailed study or inspection, as by gathering information through observations, measurements in the field, questionnaires, or research of legal instruments, and data analysis in the support of planning, designing, and establishing of property boundaries. Drones are rapidly replacing traditional land-surveillance methods. This is because of the simplicity, cost and accessibility that these drones present, especially when compared to traditional methods of surveying land. This could be a permanent method of surveying as it seems to perfect for this particular task, reducing cost is of importance to companies as well as the efficiency that this brings.

Improved Site Security & Inspection:

The arrival of drones is causing a sharp increase in security efficiency. Whether the drones are used to maintain the safety of employees or to protect the job site from theft or vandalism, they are steadily seeing greater implementation in the construction industry. People don't want to be caught on camera breaking into construction sites and so on and the thought of drones flying about capturing their movements seems to be a big deterrent and the statists prove this point, so as a by-product of other uses; this is another positive from the use of this technology.

They are also incidentally making work on-site much safer for construction workers as problems, risks and dangerous areas can be easily spotted, identified and dealt with before an accident occurs, reducing the risk of safety problems overall.

Transportation:

Since drones are generally small with high levels of manoeuvrability, they are being used more and more as an alternative to traditional vehicles. Even better, drones do not have to adhere to traffic laws, which allows them to make deliveries in a fraction of the time, using half of the resources. Transporting small items, tools and so on around the site and the rapid pace is very useful and just makes the whole process that little bit more efficient.

Other Technology And The Current Skills Gap:

Supply Replenishment:

When units of supply are labelled with RFID tags, a system on-site can count them. When the count drops below a given level, the system can trigger a request from a central system to order more. Idle time goes down, and projects have better chances of being completed on time. Costs are also contained because the construction company does not need to buy in significantly more supplies than it is likely to use at any one time. Instead, just-in-time provision becomes possible automatically.

Skills Gap:

With all these great innovations and the use of technology to better the workflow of construction workers, there is still one major problem affecting the whole industry...The skills gap is still at large, there just simply aren't enough skilled workers in all trades and aspects of construction. No matter how much technology benefits us it will still need to be controlled and manned by workers. Young people are not choosing construction trades as a profession and it's causing huge concern within the minds of professionals.

The skills gap has become so great that the demand for qualified people is extremely high, to the point where trades are seeing massive boosts in their salary, with companies paying out large amounts to encourage skilled workers to join them. The industry needs you!

So...Here is how to get involved:

Firstly, decide what trade it is that you are interested in, we cover the main skills and have individual units at our facility that teach each specific trade. Here is a list of the construction trades that we teach:
