What is a Heat Pump?
A Heat Pump is an appliance used to warm and occasionally cool buildings. They do this by transferring thermal energy from cooler place such as outside a building to a warmer space inside using the refrigeration cycle. Heat pumps are efficient at what they do and combined with solar panels, you can make your home self sufficient and eco-friendly.
What is changing?
The government and the prime minister last year laid out a 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution. Included in this proposal was the target of rolling out 600,000 heat pumps into homes by 2028. From this there has been more interest in heat pumps and the market has made huge advances from 35,000 sold in 2019 to 67,000 sold so far in 2021.
Why is this important?
This means that the market has doubled during this time, making the road towards net-zero much more promising. The ten point plan will mobilise £12 billion of government investment, and potentially 3 times as much from the private sector, to create and support up to 250,000 green jobs. As well as more opportunities for those already working as Plumbers, Heating Engineers and Gas Engineers who are qualified out in the industry.
