What should I consider when looking for Plumbing courses?

What should I consider?

When looking to learn new skills and put the work in to eventually become a professional plumber, you will need to consider how you train. What we mean by this is if you cannot commit to a 6-week training course for example, then you will need to find a training provider that offers alternative ways to train around and existing job, kids, responsibilities and so on. At Able Skills we understand that for some people committing to a full-time course is close to impossible, which is why we offer different options such as weekend training and our Home-Study courses...

This option works by allowing you to start your training from home - We will send you a 'Home-Study Pack' which will include all of the theory as well as test questions, at your own pace you will work through this pack until you are confident that you have understood what's been provided. Once you are comfortable will this information you will book time with us at your discretion to learn the practical side and complete assessments. Another thing to consider is the facilities available - We actively encourage anyone interested to come down to our centre in person before booking to see what we do, take a look below at some plumbing students getting hands-on with practical tasks...

Recognised qualifications?

When looking for a facility to train at, one important things to note is what awarding body they are associated with. This is because you want to be working towards a qualification that is valuable and is recognised by those in the industry. Our courses result in City & Guilds qualifications which are highly valued in the plumbing industry and in the trade industry as a whole. City and Guilds have been around for over a 100+ years working to maintain the standards of vocational assessments and accreditation. Plumbing courses should not only be for learning new skills, gaining new knowledge but at the end of the day you a training to get a job, start a career and to do so you'll need qualifications that are genuine and hold weight.

How much does training cost?

Obviously this question depends on where and how long you are training for, different centres will charge different rates. However, our initial training option, our City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing course costs £2,995 and then our NVQ assessment process is available for £1,495. Although, we are confident in the quality and do not require full payment right from the offset, meaning our Level 2 Plumbing course can be booked with a £500 deposit to secure a booking and the balance can be paid in six weekly instalments of £415.83. Our Home-Study Plumbing course is £2,500 due to the fact that you are spending a little less time at our centre.

How much do plumbers earn?

Again, this is a question that will depend on different factors such as; experience level, types of jobs, hours you are working and so on. Plumbers in the UK on average earn between £750 and £1000 per week which breaks down to £150 - £200 per day of work. Plumber’s wages can increase where demand is greater and higher rates of pay can frequently be reality, so becoming a plumber is an excellent choice of career. This is also a trade that can be worked on a self-employed basis where your earnings are limitless. Additionally, many plumbers eventually learn the trade of Gas opening up new opportunities for earning,  highly experienced plumbers of this type could earn in excess of £40,000.
