Engineers may soon turn to green energy courses in their pursuit of employment, if one source is to be believed regarding the prospects of wind farms.

Head of communications at RenewableUK Nick Medic described the progress of the sector as being a "win-win" situation, with plenty of positives for the country.

In his view, there should be plenty of new recruitment opportunities by 2020, which may inspire workers to sign up to green energy courses.

Mr Medic suggested there are three benefits to wind energy, stating: "On the one hand, it's contributing towards our carbon reduction targets; on the other it's basically assuring our energy security ... and on the third hand we're looking at jobs and economic benefits."

He claimed that there would not only be employment within the sector created, but indirect business opportunities that come about as a result of the development of wind energy facilities.

The European Wind Energy Association recently claimed that the sector is being held back by a lack of investment.
