Alternative Plumbing Training!

This week we have Home-Study Plumbing students starting on the practical side of their course, meaning they are here at our training centre getting some hands-on experience with the tools, materials and appliances of the trade. Plumbing is one of the most popular skills that we teach here at Able Skills and we aim to provide as many people as we can with bespoke, comprehensive plumbing courses...Which is why we try and offer alternative training methods to our students, we know that there are many of you out there that have considered a switch of careers but simply can't find the time to retrain. Today let's talk about what's going on this week at our facility and the alternative training methods available to you!

This Week:

This week we have students getting a taste of the trade of plumbing through our Introduction to Plumbing - This short intensive course is ideal for those of you who want some basic introductory plumbing skills with a City and Guilds certificate at the end. It is ideal for individuals who want to gain an insight into plumbing, maybe with a view to progressing further and achieving qualifications. - This course works well as a taster in terms of getting to know if the trade is for you, if you enjoy it and could see yourself perusing further training and ultimately a career as a plumber. We also have students taking on the first week of their practical training half of their Home Study Level 2 Plumbing Course!

Part-time training:

This one is obvious, yes, you can take a plumbing course in its entirety over a series of weekends (2-weekends a month) instead of on a Monday - Friday basis! This option is hopefully useful to those who currently have a job during the week that the cannot take an extended break from, the course is no different when taken this way, you will learn all the same topics, use the same materials and achieve the same City & Guilds qualification. The only difference is the amount of time that the course as a whole will take to complete.

Plumbing courses that can be taken on a 'Part-time' basis include:

Home-Study training:

Want to achieve a City & Guilds Level 2  but cannot commit to a solid 6-weeks of training? Whatever the reason, this alternative training option should provide you with a way to train around your prior commitments, current employment and so on. The way this course works is in two-parts. Firstly, we will provide you with a 'Home-study Pack' as well as access to the online learning platform 'Smart-screen' and a 'City & Guilds Textbook' with these tools you will learn all of  the theory in your own time, we recommend at least 6-weeks and then when you are ready and at your leisure, arrange to come to Able Skills for required On-line exams and practical training and assessments over a period of 4-weeks separated to suit your needs.

The 'Home-study' option will obviously cover the same topics including:

  • Health and safety in building services engineering
  • Electrical principles and processes for building services engineering
  • Scientific principles for domestic, industrial and commercial plumbing
  • Common plumbing processes
  • Cold water systems
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Sanitation
  • Central heating systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering
