Should I call an electrician? Does my home need rewiring?

Knowing if your home needs rewiring or not can be a mystery to those who are not familiar with electrical work, and it can be a daunting task to figure out. However, there are some simple things to keep in mind when considering that call out...Let's take a look at the common signs that you may need some modernisation:

Electrician courses

Rewiring is a job for a qualified and regulated electrician.

Age of the property:

Now traditionally, a home should be inspected by a qualified electrician every 10-years to validate the wiring and ensure the safety of the electrical systems throughout the house. However, it is more common that this is overlooked and neglected. If a property is more than 30 years old and has the original wiring, it is likely to need updating, at least in part, to meet modern standards, including replacing the fuse box with a modern consumer unit. For example, nowadays electricians use copper wiring with a PVC coating for all modern electrics whereas, in the past, aluminium wiring was used!

Lights flickering?

Now, lights around your house flickering could be nothing, maybe a bulb not screwed in properly, but if you have checked and it still persists this could be a sign of faulty or loose wiring that needs to be checked out by a qualified electrician. Other problems such as anything obvious from getting lightly shocked when plugging in appliances to circuit breakers that trip regularly. If you are still not sure, make the call, it is much safer just to call a professional rather than investigate yourself and regret it later...
