City & Guilds 2356 - NVQ Level 3

Electrical NVQ Level 3

What You’ll Learn

The NVQ level 3 is not a training course; it is an assessment of your competence and is mandatory for those of you who require JIB Gold Card – ‘Approved Electrician’ status. The NVQ is relatively easy to achieve as long as you are working within the electrical industry and have access to the right kind of work. Achievement of the C&G 2357 in full is based upon existing qualifications, site/work based assessments of competence and AM2.

Existing Electrical NVQ registrations – all is not lost.

It is apparent that there are quite a few Electricians across the UK who have previously signed up for Electrical NVQs with other training providers who may no longer be trading. In most of these cases, these Electricians will be signed up on to the previous NVQ qualification: C&G 2356. If this is the case, AM2 is not mandatory and if candidates have access to their enrolment numbers, there is every chance that Able Skills can help you finish this NVQ rather than starting again on the new NVQ: C&G 2357.

Anyone registered for NVQ C&G 2356 who wishes to join Able Skills has until 31/12/2014 to complete so there is still time. Equally, anyone registered on to the new NVQ C&G 2357 can also finish successfully with Able Skills as we also have an AM2 Centre.

How You’ll Learn

The first step is to undertake a profiling session with your Electrical NVQ Assessor where the processes for achieving an NVQ will be explained. You will then be assessed at your workplace where Able Skills Assessors will gather documentary evidence of your competence with regards to various different aspects of an Electrical installation. For the previous NVQ (C&G 2356 – see above) this will complete the qualification for you but to achieve the new NVQ (C&G 2357) in full, you will also need to undertake AM2 and dependent upon the qualifications you already hold, completion of a Bridging Unit may also be necessary. Please ask for guidance on this when you call or visit us.

Courses Open To You After

If you don’t have any Inspection and Testing qualifications, Able Skills has a combined C&G 2394/2395 course available or you may want to consider the level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (C&G 2396). In addition, Able Skills is an IET Centre of Excellence and we also have the staff and facilities available to deliver a level 5 Electrical Management qualification.

Additional Info

Able Skills has access to Electrical NVQ Assessors in both the North and South of England so we can cover (but are not limited to):

The North

Carlisle, Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Chester, York – If you register for the C&G 2357 NVQ and you are based in the North, Able Skills will cover the cost of accommodation for you when you need to come to Dartford to complete your AM2 unit.

The Midlands

Birmingham, Coventry

The South

London, Kent, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Sussex, Surrey

Work/Site based assessments are required to achieve the performance units of this Electrical NVQ qualification (C&G 2356 and 2357) and we estimate 2 to 4 visits may be required, dependent upon the work that is available to you. You will need to hold Electrical Installation qualifications at levels 2 and/or 3 in order to be eligible to register for the NVQ.

Not For You

If you are not eligible for NVQ because you don’t hold underpinning electrical qualifications, you may want to look into achieving C&G 2365 at levels 2 and 3, maybe you need 17th Edition or even Inspection & Testing.

Duration & Cost

It is hard to allocate a time frame for the completion of Electrical NVQ level 3 as the assessments will only be undertaken when you are ready so it’s more about you than it is about us. The AM2 aspect can be completed in 3 days. The cost for the Electrical NVQ is £1000 including vat (based on 2 site visits) and this can be paid in instalments over the period of the assessments. The AM2 is 3 days and is £500 including vat.

Andrew B

I took the 5 day introduction to electrics with Able Skills. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole week, it was very informative and taught in the simplest way possible to gain a good understanding very quickly. The course Tutor was quick to inform us “there’s no such thing as a stupid question” and was happy to answer anything and everything we threw at him! Great value for money and I would definitely recommend

Graham B
